Alex Carey

Alex Carey

After starting out as a cricketer, Carey decided to pursue a career in Australian Rules Football. He took up a rookie contract with the newly formed Greater Western Sydney Giants, and the 18-year-old immediately found success, winning their Best and Fairest Award in his first season and was touted for higher honours with the newly formed club. However, the talented sportsman was lured back to cricket in 2012 by the South Australian Redbacks, and there has been no looking back ever since. The left-hander played a big role in securing Adelaide Strikers’ BBL|07 title win - his incredible ton against the Hobart Hurricanes being a standout performance. Carey’s terrific run deservedly earned him his ODI & T20I debuts in 2018, with the wicketkeeper soon donning the role of vice-captain in both formats, including the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Alex Carey was captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2010, prior to them joining the AFL.
